Rare Ringnecks and their Colour Genetics

Now if you think colour genetics is all too complicated welcome to the party because that is exactly what I thought, untill I discovered the online Genetic calculators.

Do a google search on Genetic Calculator and lots of listings appear. Then type in the colour of your parent birds to see what the breeding outcome will be.

Breeding Ringnecks and following colour genectics can be very addictive. What will I get if I put these 2 birds together, or can I put 2 birds together and breed a baby worth 5 times more than their parents? What you end up with all begins with the colour genetics of the parents.  Do they carry 1,2,3,4 or 5 of the colours you need?

For example a Double Factor, Dark Violetblue Emerald Cleartail. This bird carries 1 x blue, 2 x Violet, 1 x dark, 1 x Emerald, and 2 x Cleartail genes. Leaving the Cleatail aside.... here you have 5 genes that will affect the colour of your babies. 5 colour affecting genes in 1 bird, now this is a good bird to have in your breeding program. Now if I put this bird with another who also carries 5 genes that affect colour, I would have some very interesting babies next breeding season.

Colour intensity, size and quality of your birds must also be taken into consideration. When buying new stock always let the quality of the bird and if possible its parents do the talking.

Remember, if you buy crap, you will breed crap.
